One of the best: Shepard Fairey

from Juxtapoz

In a refreshingly insightful video interview from Chapter Approved, an award from USA Network that honors creative individuals changing the face of American Culture, Shepard shines some light on who he is and the message behind his work.
For Character Approved, Henry Alex Rubin (who directed Murderball) made this informative five-minute video which is one of the best, and most informative, we’ve seen in some time.

Zombies in the area!!! Run!!!!

Found on Cnn.com
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin drivers making their morning commute were in for a surprise when two road signs on a busy stretch of road were taken over by hackers. The signs near the intersection of Lamar and Martin Luther King boulevards usually warn drivers about upcoming construction, but Monday morning they warned of "zombies ahead."

"I thought it was pretty funny," said University of Texas sophomore Jane Shin, who saw the signs while driving down Lamar Bouelvard with friends Sunday night. "We wondered who did it."

The City of Austin does not own the signs, but they are responsible for the message. The contractor on the construction project owns the signs. A city spokesperson said the hacked messages were only up for a few hours, until the construction project manager saw them during his morning commute and immediately ordered them to be changed back.

"Even though this may seem amusing to a lot of people, this is really serious, and it is a crime," said Austin Public Works spokesperson Sara Hartley. "And you can be indicted for it, and we want to make sure our traffic on the roadways stays safe."

Hartley said though it was a locked sign, the padlock for it was cut. Signs such as these have a computer inside that is password-protected.

"And so they had to break in and hack into the computer to do it, so they were pretty determined," said Hartley.

This crime is a class C misdemeanor in Texas, and Hartley said it endangers the public.

"The big problem is public safety," said Hartley. "Those signs are out there to help our traffic on the roadway to stay safe and to know what's coming up."

KXAN Austin News cameras caught many drivers slowing down to read the signs as they approached. Some read, "Zombies ahead! Run for your lives!"

Hartley said the city will discuss more secure safety measures with the manufacturer of the signs.

Bask - Hope Again!

From Juxtapoz-
Looks like we’re getting a new President sworn in soon. Yep, Washington DC will be abuzz with Inauguration excitement next week (well, even more than it already is!) As part of the global exaltation over the election of Obama as the next United States President, The Manifest Hope: DC exhibit will hold a special 3-day only shwing of Obama-inspired artwork.
Participating artist Bask shared his new piece with us, stating, “I was invited to participate in the show because of my pre-election painting I created, titled Change We Need,” Bask wrote us. “Since this piece had been purchased and was no longer available, the organizers of Manifest Hope asked me if I would create a newly inspired painting.” So he did and we dig it. Titled Announcing Hope Again, we’re now hoping that change really is on its way.
The Manifest Hope: DC Gallery will be on view January 17 – 19, 2009 during the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, DC. More info at www.manifesthope.com

Scott Teplin

Scott Teplin is an illustrator living in New York City. He also updates his blog Future Trash once a week with a new drawing! I think his blog is amazing because it gives you an insider look into his drawings, as he posts them at different levels of completion. The drawing above has been posted in 8 different forms of completion.

What I am most interested in however is his Alphaville series! The installation has actually closed but that doesnt mean we cant enjoy some fantabulous digital images now does it? Click on the link for a slide show of the entire alphabet! And here are some sneak peeks at his other work! There are gonna be alot because this stuff is amazing so lets get to it!

Jonathan Puckey

Jonathan Puckey is a designer based in Amsterdam. He is only described on his website by the images that he has tagged on http://del.icio.us/sjinsj which happen to be design, programming, javascript, video, reference, webdesign, web, typography, css, music, tool, graphicdesign.....blah blah blah. I became aware of Jonathan Puckey from Kanyeeezy's blog about Jonathan's project the the delaunay raster which is the image above!

Puckey has also been very successful in digitally rendering in other forms, one that particularly interests me in his form of felt tip rendering like the portrait below. Might not look like much now but take a few steps back from the computer monitor, Wizzo! Oh what do we have here? I think I see modern art!(inside joke!)

here are a few more of his pieces from a few years ago, very interesting stuff and make sure to check out his website here HOWEVER THIS COMES WITH A DISCLAIMER: THE DELAUNAY RASTER PORTION OF HIS SITE CRASHED FIREFOX THREE TIMES SO EXPLORE WITH CAUTION AND BTW ITS COMPLETELY WORTH IT!!!

some word art, perhaps?

Craaaaaaaazzzzyyyy!!!!

SO....I will be the first to admit I am waaaaaaay late on this! But the Violent Femmes asked Gnarles Barkley, as payment for them Gnarles Barkley covering their song, to cover "Crazy". You can get it on phat light blue vinyl here

See!

Ok! now that I have promoted the crap out of this lets talk about the song a little! Well.....actually Gnarles Barkley pretty much sums it up here:

"I might compare it to a calm pond. I caught my reflection in it. And I seemed to be momentarily at peace. This track sounds entirely different in the rain, and supports some intriguing lilypads." - GNARLES BARKLEY

Swedes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me and the wife recently watched "Be Kind Rewind" a masterful film by Michel Gondry, which stars Jack Black and Mos Def. In the film the characters are forced to recreated movies when people request them. What a "fantab" idea! So we looked up some on the internet(you know it has everything, after all!!) And I would like to share with you my favorite "Sweded" versions of some films. Here we go!

"Back to the Future"
this one reimagines Doc Brown as a large black man!

"The Shining"
The twins in this are priceless! But what no Scatman Crothers??

"Karate Kid"
Plain Stupid! Plain Amazing!

"Jurassic Park"
The dinosaurs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are!!!! amazing!!!!!

Have you found any good ones? Wont you email me and show me?
